We survived the holidays although we continue to have server issues occasionally... In any case, we've finally launched the sketchy.community which is currently powered by PHPizabi. I've narrowed down my server problems to a ridiculous amount of traffic coming from the Googlebot... I want Google to visit and index lots of pages of sketchy.com, but I had to request that they chill the Googlebot out. I've also revised the sketchy.com robots.txt file to try and slow msnbot, Slurp, Googlebot and Speedy down, as well as stop them from crawling dynamic pages. I've blocked a bunch

I finally got access to the new dedicated server yesterday, so I've more or less migrated the site over the past 24 hours... As of this morning, everything should be up and running again. Believe it or not there was a power outage at my data center, so the server was down again from some time early this morning until around Noon... I can't believe my luck this week, good thing this is only a preview of the site.

Once again we're getting way to many MySQL requests at the same time and it's bringing down the server... We're going to try to get this resolved but it really won't be fixed until we move off of the crappy Celeron 2.4 GHz 256MB RAM server we're currently on. Needless to say our server is somewhat sketchy and we experienced some down time today due to MySQL getting too many requests... I guess it's a good problem to have. We've deactivated our reporting functionality and cleaned up some of the code in order to keep the site up. I've been thinking about how to best describe what sketchy.com is and where it's heading... So, I'll start by saying that sketchy.com is being reborn as the first Social Alternative Metasearch Engine (SAME) that isn't exactly the same :-) as other meta search engines. I just finished adding a new feature that allows you to send sketchy.com search results to a friend (or a few friends). All you need to do is search for something, like school loan consolidation and then click the "Share these results »" link at the top of the results page next to the search term in red. Sharing sketchy.com search results can make you happy!
